MonkeyBot A digital trader per campaign, 24/7

The same audience costs up to 80% more depending on the hour

The price of advertising inventory changes throughout the day. MonkeyBot is Babuin’s digital trader, one per campaign: it doesn’t put the whole budget on the network, it releases it in small slots, forecasts before each buy whether it is worth it and audits what each one cost against the result.

The problem

Buying advertising is bidding at an auction with your eyes covered

Imagine going to buy a painting at an auction blindfolded and with your ears covered. You can’t see who you are bidding against or hear their offers. And the owner of the painting is also the one running the auction and telling you what price you paid.

01 · eyes covered

You can’t see who you are bidding against

You don’t know how many advertisers are competing for the same audience at any given moment, or how much they are willing to pay.

02 · ears covered

You can’t hear how the price moves

The cost of reaching the same target changes hour by hour, with differences that in the campaigns we run reach 80%, and the platform doesn’t warn you.

03 · the owner runs it

You have to take the price on trust

The platform sells the inventory, runs the auction and reports the result to you. If you hand it the whole budget, it decides when to spend it.

How the trader works

Intelligence is knowing when not to buy

Each MonkeyBot runs one campaign, independently and 24/7. Instead of entrusting the whole day’s budget to the platform, it releases it in slots and decides each one with what it learned from the previous one. It is dayparting, but decided every day with data rather than with a fixed schedule.

  1. 01 · split

    Break the budget into slots

Each campaign’s daily budget is split into small slots instead of being handed whole to the network.

  2. 02 · forecast

Decide whether a buy is worth it

Before each slot it estimates, from what it has learned about inventory, cost and demand, whether that time band will perform. If not, it doesn’t buy.

  3. 03 · audit

    Check every bid

It compares each slot’s effective cost with what it produced, including the sales or leads in your source of truth, not only what the platform reports.

  4. 04 · reallocate

    Buy where it performs

The next slot goes to the time bands with the best price and result. The expensive ones get less until they pay off again.

Between the cheapest and the most expensive time band there is a 80% difference in reaching the same people. With the budget spread evenly, the expensive hours are paid for at the same rate as the cheap ones.

MonkeyBot detects with the first slots where the price is and moves the rest towards those time bands. With the same €800, in this example you get 125k impressions instead of 117k, 7% more.

In performance the mechanism is the same, with cost per lead or per sale instead of cost per thousand: if each lead comes out more expensive in a given time band, MonkeyBot sends it fewer slots and buys more where each lead comes out cheaper, verifying it with the leads your CRM records and not only with those the platform reports.

FAQ

About bidding with MonkeyBot

What is MonkeyBot?

MonkeyBot is Babuin’s digital trader: a per-campaign bidding algorithm that works 24/7. Instead of handing the platform the whole day’s budget, it splits it into slots, forecasts before each buy whether it is worth it, checks what price is paid and what result each one delivers, and sends the next slot to the time bands that perform best.

Why does the price of inventory change throughout the day?

Advertising inventory is bought at auction. Every hour, different advertisers with different budgets are bidding, so the price of reaching the same audience rises and falls during the day. In the campaigns we run, we have seen differences of up to 80% between time bands for the same target.

How is it different from DBA?

DBA decides how much budget each medium receives. MonkeyBot decides when and how that budget is spent within each medium. Both measure against your business results.

Does it replace Google’s or Meta’s automated bidding?

No. The campaigns keep buying in each platform’s auctions. What changes is that MonkeyBot does not hand them the whole budget at once: it releases it in slots and verifies each slot’s result before releasing the next.

How does it verify the result?

It compares what each slot cost with what it produced: impressions on the target and, when connected, the sale, lead or install recorded in your source of truth. That way it does not rely only on the price and the conversions the platform reports.

What data does it need?

The campaign data Babuin reads from each platform and, to measure business results, your CRM, ERP, MMP, e-commerce or a spreadsheet. See integrations.

Is it the same as dayparting or ad scheduling?

Similar in goal, not in method. Classic dayparting (ad scheduling) sets in advance the hours and days on which the campaign is shown, with a schedule someone reviews from time to time. MonkeyBot does dynamic dayparting: it decides the time bands every day based on the price and the result it measures in each slot, and changes them when the inventory changes.
